“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

Samuel Beckett

I have a passion for jumping.

I currently coach the high jump and pole vault for both Natick High School and Patriot Pole Vault Club. I encourage everyone to try these and other events. You may discover your own passion!

When I joined track as a freshman in 1986, I didn’t consider myself an athlete, and I had never even seen the high jump.  But after trying out a variety of events, I fell in love with the high jump. (Best 6’1″.)  As a sophomore at MIT, I discovered a second event: the triple jump. (Best 42’7.75″.) For the next 25 years, I competed in slalom water skiing, but then my daughter Sarah pulled me back into track, and it was time to learn my third event: the pole vault!  (Best so far 11′.)  Learning to vault as an old man has been one of the most fun adventures of my life.
