Hello everyone, my name is Steven and I’m one of 7 captains for the NHS Boys Cross Country team. Every summer the team holds captains practices for current NHS members, upcoming freshmen, as well as past runners from the team. These practices allow everyone to improve over the summer and get to know each other. Whether you plan on doing cross country in the fall or another sport, these practices are a great way to get in shape as well as have fun.

This summer there’s going to be 3 practices a week. They will be held every MondayWednesday, and Friday. Every practice will be held at 5:30 pm at Elm Bank (900 Washington St, Wellesley). We meet at the picnic tables next to the second parking lot. The only time practice will be cancelled is if you receive an email from any of the captains (usually due to thunderstorms). Our first practice this summer will be held on Monday, June 26th at 5:30 pm. We highly suggest bringing athletic wear, a water bottle, and a good attitude.

The Monday and Wednesday practices are normal aerobic runs. However, Friday is a fun day where we will play games (ultimate frisbee, fishy fishy, capture the flag, manhunt etc.) Although Friday practices are fun days, we will still host an optional run beforehand at 4:00 pm. It’s extremely important to note that just because Friday is a fun day, it doesn’t mean Monday and Wednesday aren’t fun ;).

These captains’ practices are open to everyone regardless of your running ability. You can expect the runs we do to be anywhere from 30-70 minutes, but we will definitely adjust to fit everyone’s running abilities. We highly encourage everyone to make it to as many practices as possible as they are a great way to get in shape and make connections with the team before the season begins.

For anybody new to the team, do not be nervous to come to these practices. I know as a freshman I was very nervous because I didn’t know anybody on the team, and I was unsure of my running abilities. However, there is no need to be shy or nervous; everyone on the team is super nice and friendly, and I believe I speak on everyone’s behalf when I say we love

seeing new faces around the team.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out. We can’t wait to see you all this summer

Sincerely,

The XC Captains 🙂
