Natick had some great individual performances at the Large School Coaches Invitational this past Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. On the girls side, Kylie Langan ran a PR of 42.74 in the 300 meters to move to 4th on the Athletic.net list that keeps records of best performances since about 2000. Paige Edwards ran a season best 3:07.77 in the 1000 and Caroline Fleming ran a 5:12.19 Mile PR for 4th on the list. The girls 4×200 ran a season best of 1:47.78.
On the boys side, Joe Maichen and Alec Laurent finished together at the end of the 600, finishing in 1:25.81 and 1:25.82 respectively to jump to 4th and 5th on the recent best list. Both efforts improved their previous bests by 1 1/2 seconds. Nick Melisi moved up to 6th on the best list with a 4:41.56 Mile, while Matty George ran the best 2 mile since 2001 with a 9:56.06. Danny Dubsky ran a blazing 7.82 in the 55 hurdles for 3rd place in the finals and 5th on the recent best list. Finally, Clifton Barnett threw a season best (by over two feet) 46’1.75″ in the shot put for seventh place. It is good to see Clifton getting back toward his top form set during his junior year.
On the college alumni scene yesterday, Owen Chase (NHS ’18) ran a 2:31 in the 1000 meters at Bucknell, and Dylan Jones (NHS ’15) ran a 8:49.53 3000 meters running for Tufts.
The last JV meet is Tuesday at Newton North at 4pm. Stay tuned for instructions from event coaches about what sort of training you should do on your own in the off season. The last varsity meet at the Reggie Lewis Center is Wednesday with the Bay State Conference Invitational. The format for this meet is seeded races instead of the usual dual meet format of the rest of the season. Next Wednesday is the first post-season meet with the Bay State Conference championship at the Reggie. We will have two entries for each event with additional entries for those athletes that have met the lowest MIAA division qualifying standards for their event.
It is expected that varsity group distance runners will continue to run long, aerobic runs at least until the first big snow.
